‘When I grow Up i want to be a cat’ – 2024
Most recently, we created The Audiobook version of my book entitled ‘When I Grow Up I Want to be a Cat. Surviving the education system with Asperger’s.’ This book is about growing up and surviving the education system whilst living with Autism and interviews nine Autistic adults about their school experiences. The book was voiced by Six Neurodiverse actors and was released in May 2024. It is available for purchase on Bandcamp. Blank Canvas September – 2018
With only six weeks to create a performance Alternative Voices were given the challenge to produce a piece about Identity, Justice and belonging. The themes were picked by the group in an exercise as those were the themes they most identified with. many of the actors were on the Autism spectrum or had neurodiverse conditions. Together we created a piece of forum theatre and due to our success we received our first piece of Arts Council England funding, making us a professional theatre company. Blank canvas ran for two nights in September at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Audience feedback was that it was a show ‘they would remember for a long time’ and they wondered ‘why more Autistic actors did not tour with their work or work in schools to teach young people.’ We celebrated by sharing a giant cookie and singing karaoke at Ming Moon restaurant.
