Mission Statement
Alternative Voices Theatre Company empowers Autistic and neurodiverse adults to thrive in the world of theatre and beyond — using their authentic voices to tell real, meaningful stories.
- Guided by the social model of disability, Our mission is to support employers to remove the barriers that society puts in place which are felt and experienced by Neurodivergent performers be it by policy or lack of understanding. We do this through education and supporting with implementation of Access and inclusion ethos and practices via our training package.
- we support Neurodivergent and disabled artists to discover and develop their unique strengths, talents, and artistic identities. We enable them to Participate and engage in theatre using goal setting to guide them towards their creative visions. We are not a learning disabled or disability theatre company, although we accept and welcome everyone. We are just a group of damn good actors!
- Through dynamic theatre techniques—such as ensemble devising, improvisation, forum theatre, world-building, and playful questioning—we create spaces where difference is a strength, and every voice is heard and valued.
- We envision a future where Neurodivergent and disabled actors lead films, take centre stage, and receive recognition and funding based on the quality of their work, not their label. Our work is not “disability art”; it is simply excellent art made by artists who are unapologetically themselves.
